The War of 1812 and Its Influence on the Northumberland Area

No famous battles were fought in this area during the War of 1812. However, its history in this conflict is still fascinating. On a vital supply route, the area was under constant threat of invasion. The primary sources tell the stories of spies, raids, the transfer of prisoners, and the vital tasks performed by the local men and women to keep the war effort going. Many local militia men volunteered to serve in more professional units which placed them on the key battlefields of the war. Likewise, the ancestors of the native people of the Alderville reserve fought at the strategic battle of Crysler's Farm.
In "Primary Sources", there are letters to and from the militia, plus there are an assortment of pay records and muster lists.
"Secondary Accounts" contain articles on key aspects of the war.
